Press Release Body: Santa Rosa, CA, <11/9/2008>: Honda has come out with the 2009
Clarity FCX, the world’s first vehicle to run on hydrogen fuel-cells. The FCX
concept was first unveiled at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is currently
available only on order/lease with only a limited number released, as consumers are
not permitted to buy this model.

Engine
The 2009 Honda FCX Clarity is a four-door four-passenger sedan that runs on fuel
obtained through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The only
by-product of this engine is vapor emissions.

This electric motor has power of 127 horsepower, which translates to 134 hp and 189
lb ft of torque on a car with a regular engine. It accelerates to 60 mph in 9.2
seconds, which is almost on par with what the 2008 Honda Accord sedan does on its
177 hp engine.

The 2009 Honda FCX Clarity offers fuel efficiency that translates to 68 to 79 mpg.

Interiors and exteriors
This model’s interiors and exteriors are filled up with features such as a
limousine-like cabin volume, new lighter lithium ion battery pack, electric
steering, a climate control system within the seats to minimize energy use, Honda
bio-fabric upholstery, rear camera, floating, layered instrument panel, XM satellite
radio, thermo-electrically heated and cooled seats, electronic stability control,
adaptive cruise control and a navigation system.

Safety
The 2009 Honda FCX Clarity’s safety features include an impact-absorbing interior,
six advanced airbags, hydrogen filler inlet with integrated check valve, collision
mitigation braking system, traction control system with slide-slip control, vehicle
stability assistance, and an electronic brake distribution system. To protect the
hydrogen and electrical devices in the car during a collision, an omni-directional
crash protection is given.
